Celebrating

The fact that my sister’s brain surgery went well and she’s now home and recovering. She’s still dealing with some bad headaches, so that’s not fun, but she’s doing well overall! I’m glad that the surgery was a success and she should be on the road to recovery! You can read more about her diagnosis here and my initial update here

Visiting

Lexington, KY. This is where my sister had her surgery and my mom and I ended up spending an entire week there. Of course, we didn’t get to do anything all that exciting, but we ate pretty well!

Baking

I’m not much of a baker, but I do have a brownie mix I was gifted awhile ago that I really need to put to good use!

Wearing

Lots of dresses! It’s been really hot this past week, which is nice for when I want to jump in the pool. Otherwise, I’m wearing as many of my dresses as I can so I don’t overheat. I also wore a lot of my workout pants while with my sister in the hospital because it could get cold and they were comfortable to just sit around in.

Loving

All the fantastic people that gave well-wishes to my sister and family. She had a lot of friends call, text, visit, and give gifts. I even took some donations to get her an Amazon gift card – partly a Get Well gift, but also for her birthday (which she spent in the hospital) – and some author/bloggy friends were fantastic and donated to this fund! Thank you to Christy, Bev, and author Catherine Ryan Hyde (as well as some members of my family who also donated). The total amount was $160 – woah, that’s insane, you all! She was so surprised and very, very thankful! You definitely made her day – week – month!

Before You Go…

It’s Christmas in July – and Harry Potter’s Birthday month (July 31, fyi) so Harry on the Shelf is back! Follow me on Instagram for more Harry shenanigans.

I’m so glad that your sister is doing better, but i agree, headaches are never any fun. Glad she has you there for support and hugs. Christmas in July is always so cool, not only for Harry Potter, but also on the Hallmark Channel. The bring back lots of my fave Christmas shows. As always, I’m enjoying the Price is Right 4th of July Special, doing laundry and reading. I literally wear dresses or skirts all the time, just seems easier for me. I wish you and your family a very Happy Independence Day! Hugs…RO

  2. It’s good to hear your sister is getting better now! She must have been terrified, I know I would have been in her place… A brain surgery is a scary thing to go through. I wish her a quick recovery!

  3. Sending all the best wishes to your sister and hope she has a speedy recovery. I’m so sorry to hear that she had brain surgery and can’t imagine how scary that must have been for everyone (not to mention painful for her!). I went back to learn a bit more about her diagnosis — thank you for sharing and sending everyone my ❤️

Hope you have fun plans for the 4th! We just got a pup in to dogsit for a few days, and are taking it easy in this heat!! Xoxo

  4. Oh, my, I didn’t realize your sister had brain surgery. I knew she was in Lexington for surgery but wasn’t sure what type. Glad you are all home and your sister is on the mend. Glad you found some good eatin’ in Lexington. My mom loves O’Charley’s which I think must be a chain that we just don’t have in El Paso. So every time we visit her in Lexington, we go to O’Charley’s at least once.
Yay for wearing dresses. Actually I wore a T-shirt type dress this week and it was cooler than jeans, for sure. I need to remember that!

  5. I’m all about dresses for hot weather too. And so glad to hear your sister’s surgery went well – best wishes to her for a speedy recovery!

  6. I’m so glad to hear the surgery went well! Although headaches do suck. Hope she feels better soon! Yum, brownies. I’m sure you’ll manage, even if you’re not a master baker 😉 I think dresses are so cute, but I pretty much never wear them myself cuz I find them really uncomfortable! I always worry I’m going to flash people my underwear lol.

  7. I live in Castle Rock, CO and enjoyed a barbecue with friends then dinner out with my kids! Due to our extremely dry weather, our fireworks were cancelled though! =(

  8. Glad your sister’s surgery went well. What with being out of town for ALA, I’m behind on reading the blogs I follow! I need to go back and read what was going on. I’m not much of a baker either, but last summer I bought a couple cooking magazines that had cakes on the cover that I wanted to make, or try. Needless to say, I still haven’t made them, or even tried. I found when I was in NOLA for ALA that I had a dress from LuLaRoe that was perfect for the hot weather, and so comfortable! I need to get more of them, but they’re not really cheap. Oh well.
