I’m a day late, but I’m still linking up with Anne at In Residence for her Currently feature

Currently: October 2021

This is my absolute favorite time of the year! I’m already doing some fun Fall/Halloween things, and I’m definitely planning for even more this month. What about you?? Feel free to answer any of the prompts in the comments!

Borrowing: Honestly, I’m not sure I’m really borrowing anything at the moment. I am curious how others have answered this question though! haha

Buying: a Harry Potter themed wand at the Ohio Renaissance Festival this past weekend! It was hard to choose the one I wanted, because they were all so well-made and cool looking. I eventually went with this light brown one with the Hogwarts emblem at the top.

Planning: Well, until Tuesday, I was planning a fun giveaway over on Instagram with some fellow bookstagrammers.

It’s live now though, so enter by Sunday, October 10th! Unfortunately, it’s U.S. only, but if you’re in the U.S. and love books and coffee, this one is for you!!

Prepping: Videos for TikTok. I have officially become obsessed with the app. There are just so many fun, amusing, and creative videos on there! I’ve even started making my own – mostly book related or ones to do with my cat, Charlie. I’d love for you to follow me over there if you have an account!

I’ve been trying to make videos when I can and saving them to my drafts so that I have something ready when I want to post. At the moment, I’m posting a video a day…or every other day. I’d love to know if you’d like to see anything specific over there!

Reading: a lot of books throughout the year. I put my Goodreads goal at 100, and I’ve already read 98 books so obviously I’ll be going over 100 soon. At the same time, I feel like I’m not reading as much on a monthly basis as I have in the past. I try not to worry about it too much though. Expect some book reviews soon, however! Some books I’ve read and enjoyed recently: Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney, The Family Plot by Megan Collins, and This Is Why We Lie by Gabriella Lepore .

How is October going for you so far? Are you also a huge fan of the month?

  1. I’ve found that my reading definitely has ‘seasons.’ There are just some months–usually in spring + fall–when I’m able to read less; summer + winter, more. I used to be hard on myself about it, but after noticing the pattern, I was able to make sense of (+ accept) it!

  2. After hearing about Rock, Paper, Scissors in a number of places, I am putting it on hold. And that wand is great. We have a women who makes wands at the end of our street and both of our kids have wands from there. They LOVE them!

  3. TikTok is so much fun. It takes a little bit of time to curate the FYP to what you really want to see but every day I smile at how funny, creative, and passionate some people are!

  4. I tried out TikTok for a little while last month but I just couldn’t get into it. I liked your videos though! Well done on reading nearly 100 books! I’ve read just over 20 books so far this year.

  5. I have not created a TikTok. I see enough of it from postings on Instagram. Sounds like you guys had a cool giveaway. Way to go with your reading. I can’t even finish my audiobooks…Hehehe. Glad I stopped by. I know it’s been awhile. Since yesterday was World Mental Health Day, I’m sharing a post from 2018.

  6. I don’t think I dare go near tik tok… I waste enough time online without watching all the short clips that inevitably add up and you’ve lost hours of your day, lol.
Good luck with it! It’s great that you’re enjoying it.

Well done on GR! I lowered my number as I’ve been struggling with reading and I’m still, probably, not going to hit the reduced number. *sigh*

  7. I have never gone on tik tok. I don’t think I will anytime soon although I often see videos people share on IG. I think I’ve hit my social media limit lol

I’m glad you’re having fun with it though! People are so creative.

I lowered my goodreads challenge to – I think – 20-ish books – this year but I’m over that. I honestly didn’t think I would read more than 4-5 so I’m happy with whatever number at this point lol

  8. Way to go on the Goodreads challenge! I’ve been the exact opposite and reading maybe too much for my own good this year.

I can’t think of anything with borrowing other than making full use of borrowing books and binging an entire series of novellas (which for once made me hit the maximum borrow limit on Hoopla in a month).
